Description

Joshua trees are the indicator species for the Mojave Desert.  This one is on Cima Dome, California at about 3000 feet (1000 meters) elevation.  This picture was taken in early afternoon on a brilliant autumn day.  I think the strong contrast and intense colors work well to show the hostile environment.

The horizon is not really crooked.  The terrain gently rose toward the summit of Cima Dome, off the left side of the frame (the west).
