MBT-70 Main Battle Tank Prototype

MBT-70 was a joint West German-US program to design and produce a main battle tank to replace the US M60 and West German Leopard. The program started in the early 1960s during the Cold War when both the Americans and the West Germans became concerned with the improving technology in USSR tanks. A lot of money was spent on the program but, eventually, both the Germans and Americans cancelled. Some of the technology that was developed during the project found its way into the US M-1 Abrams main battle tank.

Unfortunately, the US Army Ordinance Museum has been closed and this vehicle can not longer be viewed.
